A story of beauty, curiosity, resilience, knowledge and a love for helping others feel spOILed — from the inside out.

Hi, I’m Angelique — a Wife, Mother & the woman behind spOIL’tique Beauty & Perfumes.

My story with beauty didn’t begin when I started a business. It began when I was a little girl.

I was the definition of a girly girl. I loved dolls, dressing up, doing hair, fashion and anything beautiful. I was especially fascinated by modelling, and as I grew older that childhood interest became part of my working life. I worked within the fashion and beauty industries, surrounded by the things I had always loved.

But eventually, beauty became much more personal to me.

In my twenties I was diagnosed with PCOS. The hormonal imbalances brought challenges including pigmentation, hair loss and thinning, and other changes to my hair and skin. Suddenly I wasn’t only interested in what made something look beautiful. I wanted to understand why products worked, what was inside them, and what could genuinely help.

From Style by Angelique to DARE

In 2013, I started Style by Angelique, originally envisioned as a personal styling service. My dream was to offer women the complete experience — analysis, wardrobe makeovers, shopping, salon visits and helping them rediscover their personal style.

Living in a small Mpumalanga town, however, taught me one of my first lessons in business: sometimes your original plan isn't where your journey ultimately takes you.

Around that time, neon hair colour powders were beginning to trend. I became fascinated.

I didn't want to simply sell the colours. I wanted to understand them.

I studied colour technology and the fundamentals of hair care and began experimenting with pigments, mixing my own shades from primary colours and learning about the plant, fruit, vegetable and root-derived ingredients used in the products. That curiosity eventually led me to develop other products, including an anti-yellow toner, and expand into shampoo, conditioner and my first hair-growth oil blend.

Style by Angelique became DARE Neon Hair & Beauty.

Without realizing it at the time, I was already building the foundation of what spOIL’tique would one day become.

Then Life Changed Everything

My interest in natural wellness continued to grow through my own experiences, but in 2020 it became deeply personal.

After struggling with digestive problems since infancy, I became extremely ill and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I underwent surgery that year, including the removal of my gallbladder, and recovery was difficult.

I was also a mom to my little boy, born in 2018 after six years of struggling with infertility related to PCOS. He is autistic and, at the time, struggled greatly with sleep.

I began searching for gentle, natural ways to bring more calm and comfort into our home.

And then I discovered essential oils.

It started with a cute little owl diffuser.

I began learning about the oils we could diffuse and use appropriately on our bodies. The more I learned, the more fascinated I became. I experimented with incorporating aromas into things such as clay and bath salts and started making simple bath and body products.

I didn't know it when I bought that little diffuser, but that chapter would eventually give spOIL’tique its name.

The Birth of spOIL’tique

The name represents several pieces of my story:

spoil + OIL + boutique + Angelique.

The OIL at its heart was intentional.

But the meaning behind the name goes even deeper. I wanted people using my products to feel spOILed — to take care of themselves, enjoy beautiful things and feel good from the inside out.

While working with essential oils, I studied aromatherapy and became increasingly interested in how oils, ingredients and aromas interact with our bodies and senses.

After a difficult personal chapter and a break from business, I eventually returned. By early 2023, I knew it was time for everything I had learned and created over the years to come together under one identity.

spOIL’tique Beauty & Perfumes became the company, while DARE Neon remained as the specialised colour range that had been such an important part of my journey.

And I kept studying.

Aromatherapy. Skincare. Aromatherapy skincare. Makeup theory. Ingredients. Formulation.

For me, learning isn't something I do simply to collect certificates. I want to understand what I sell and create.

And Then Came Perfume...

I had already been dreaming about creating a signature fragrance when something happened that felt like confirmation: the final module of one of my aromatherapy skincare courses introduced me to perfumery.

I was hooked.

Fragrance brought together so many things I already loved — aroma, ingredients, creativity, sensory experiences and the fascinating connection between scent, memory, emotion and the brain.

Being an autism mom has also given me a very personal understanding of the importance of our senses. It made the sensory world of fragrance even more fascinating to me.

I went on to complete extensive studies in perfumery and olfactory, and I continue learning through additional courses and my own ongoing study and experimentation.

That knowledge grew into creating my own signature fragrance blends, working with perfume concentrates and specialised bases, and eventually developing the spOIL’tique Scent Lab and bespoke fragrance creation.

My personal fascination with fragrance also led me into the fragrance community and the world of authentic Dubai perfumes. As my own collection and knowledge grew, I built relationships with reputable suppliers and eventually added carefully sourced authentic Dubai fragrances to spOIL’tique.

More Than a Beauty Store

Today, spOIL’tique brings together a lifetime of interests that once seemed completely separate.

My background in fashion and beauty. My two years of certified study in Buying & Merchandising Management. Hair and colour. Aromatherapy. Skincare. Perfumery and olfactory. Product development. Sourcing. And years of learning through my own experiences and those of my family.

I am the owner of spOIL’tique, but I'm also its buyer, merchandiser, product developer, fragrance creator, researcher and educator.

I carefully source products I believe belong in the brand while continuing to develop and create products of my own.

Because spOIL’tique was never meant to be about putting hundreds of random beauty products on a shelf.

There needs to be a why behind what I do.

My passion is learning, creating and then sharing that knowledge with others — whether I'm talking about a perfume, explaining an ingredient, blending a fragrance or developing something new.

And beneath all of it is something even more important to me: people.

My faith and my love for God are central to who I am. Through my You Are Worthy movement and ministry, I have a particular heart for women and helping them understand their worth.

That same heart lives inside spOIL’tique.

Beauty doesn't determine your worth. A perfume, cream, new hairstyle or beautiful product cannot give you worth.

You already have it.

But sometimes taking a little time to care for yourself, wearing a fragrance that makes you smile or using something that makes you feel beautiful can remind you that you matter too.

That is what spOIL’tique means to me.
